Picture Perfect Earrings

Make your own "designer" earrings using images from the pages of any magazine! These bedazzled earrings are as easy as 1-2-3, this tutorial could be used to make some brooches for your hijab too.

-Magazine photos of earrings or other jewelry. (Note: If you want to make matching earrings, you will need to find two of the same images in one magazine, or a single image from two separate copies of the magazine.)

-A small piece of suede or thin leather, approximately 4" x 4" or larger (available at craft stores)

-Mod Podge or white craft glue

-Earring wires

-Small gems, crystals, or other embellishments (self-stick or glue-on)

Steps to Make the Gift: Picture Perfect Earrings

1. Carefully cut out your magazine images, staying as close to the silhouette of the image as possible.

2. Brush Mod Podge or glue on to the back of the cutouts, then glue images to the suede fabric, leaving room around each image. Cut out the earring pieces, leaving a small border all around.

3. Brush a thin smooth layer of Mod Podge or glue over entire image to protect it. Let dry.

4. Add gems or other embellishments. Use a sharp needle to poke a hole close to the top of each earring, then slip earring wires through the holes.

Bella's Bridal Gown...Twilight-Breaking down

6:11 PM S. H. 0 Comments

Well finally and after a lot of speculation, Bella's bridal gown is on sale, it was designed by one of my favorites designers (We even share the same last name , that's cool :),Carolina Herrera has made an excellent work as usual with her femininity showing off, the dress is made of satin with long sleeves and button detail Cut out back with lace embellishment, oh! and a lot of bottoms, it is simply beautiful.

While fashion designer Carolina Herrera was enlisted to design the gown for Kristen Stewart in the actual movie, a version of the dress could be yours for a fraction of the price of a high-fashion frock!

Starting on Nov. 21, replicas of the gorgeous Herrera gown will be available in 400 bridal shops, including 67 Alfred Angelo stores, and will retail for $799. While

Kristen has said, “The dress was tight. It was so tight"

I'm agree with here and it is made to show off your curves this is an inconvenient for a hijabi but there are some options, you can use to cover up more and still continue with this simple and yet feminine look.
the mass-produced version will be more forgiving for a variety of body types.

“I was inspired by Stephanie’s description of the gown in the book,” Carolina told The New York Times. “I also took into consideration the personality of the bride.”

Stephanie Meyer, author of the Twilight saga said, “I wanted the dress to have a period feel without being actually vintage.”

Would you want to wear a replica of Bella’s dress on your special day?

Analyzing, Why nail polish is haram?

12:08 AM S. H. 0 Comments

Some times for Muslim Women is difficult( to not say hard ) to accept what Islam orders mostly when it comes to make-up & fashion, with all the influence from the media showing exuberant women working sexy cloths, fake nails, fake hair, fake eye lash...the list is endless. We assume a position where we think that because "others" do it then is "not too bad" if we do it too.

Now you can take this Article with you and embed it on your blog, at the end of this post you will find the pdf document give click on it the embed option will appear.

Then we adopt an attitude where we try to be "Different" and put in practice our own believes and thoughts, forgetting that Islam and the Qur’an are the only TRUE guides that we should follow because Allah(swt) sent the Qur'an for all mankind, so we can read and learn what is harm for us and what is better for all of us.

We should also always remember that "Islam orders only what is beautiful and prohibits only that which is ugly".

As a woman I was "Addicted" to nail polish, I used to have very long nails and paint them every day with different color, most of the times the color matching my cloths, I had a huge collection with all the colors you can imagine of nail polish, then I went to college and spend a lot of the time on the laboratories, Long nails wasn't an option anymore, it was a must keep our nails as short as possible, then , with the time I get used to it and no longer I was just fine with my not painted short nails, I wasn't Muslim at this time but I have to confess that sometimes looking at my friends that weren’t studying Science with their gorgeous manicure, I sometimes feel jealous, so I can understand what a Muslim woman feels when you see all this new trends in nail polish and nail ornaments.

So, starting with the question of Why?
Why is nail polish haram?
Well the answer according to Islam city Nail polish as a product is not Haram.

However, there are two issues you should know about nail polish:

1-A woman can pray with nail polish, however, when she takes her
Ablution, she should have it off, otherwise, both her ablution and her
Prayers don’t become valid. However, if she removes the nail polish,
Takes her ablution, and then puts the nail polish back, then she can
Pray with it.

2 -As to the second issue, nail polish is an ornament.
Therefore, like all other ornaments, it cannot be worn in public in the
Presence of the opposite sex (men).

3 - A woman can only have it in front of
Her husband, children, and all other women or men who are her Mahrams
(Those she can never marry like her father, uncle, etc.). If a woman
Really wants to put nail polish and go out, then she should cover her hands with gloves. Something I'm sure you don't want to do.

Now let's talk about Ablution with nail polish and why the rule about wiping over the sock in wudoo' can’t be applied to Nail Polish.

Nail polish and Ablution

Islam is the religion of cleanliness and purity. That is why every Muslim is ordered to be very clean, in body, in apparel and in regard to the place of standing for prayer. Ablution is a means of cleaning the body from what the Shari'ah terms as hadith al-asghar (the smaller impurities) although such a form of impurity is not related to the existence of physical impurity on the body, If a wife wants to put on nail polish to please her husband, after she does ablution, the ablution is valid,

If however, a woman applies
Nail polish in order to appear attractive in
front of others, (e.g. at work)
That is not accepted nor allowed

, If she applied the nail polish after ablution, the nail polish does not affect her ablution and she can make as such Salaah or other Ibadah (form of worship) which requires Wudhu (ablution) as she likes with that ablution.

If she loses her ablution, by any of the ways which nullify it and then needs to
renew it
, she must first remove the nail polish as it prevents the water from reaching the surface of the nails. The existence of such a polish will thus invalidate the ablution since it does not allow the water to reach the nails.

Lates trend in nail polish, Magnetic Polish, al most all the ingredients on it are haram!

Some scholars accept a minority opinion which has been presented by some scholars that says if the nail polish is applied after ablution; the ablution may be subsequently renewed, when necessary, without removing the nail polish. However the more correct and conscientious way is to remove the nail polish.

The above article was edited by Ustaaz Ahmed Fazel Ebrahim for the English to make full sense to a wider readership. The latter view expressed by some scholars seems to emanate from the Islamic ruling pertaining to the use of leather and other special types of socks upon which ablution is allowed provided that the feet were previously washed during wudhu and the socks have not been thereafter removed while the person who wore it had nullified his ablution by any factors that nullify it, Such an analyses is completely incorrect since,

The allowance of wiping wet hands over such socks is given in the hadith and Cannot be extend to the case of finger nails because although the leather and Other prescribed type of socks were not worn due to dire necessity, and the
Possibility exists to extend the ruling to cutex and nail polish, which is also Not worn due to medical need but, rather, for the
sake of Beauty
, yet the Shari'ah had not prescribed the same ruling to the case of anything which covers the surface of the human body which has to be washed during wudhu (ablution) and ghusl (bathing) unless if such an area was covered by bandage, plaster or a cast due to medical need, It thus follows that if any other area which has to be washed during ablution or ghusl, is covered without a medical need, then the object or substance, which prevents the water from reaching the surface of the limb which has to be washed, must be removed.

So as you can see, in conclusion, Nail polish as a product is not haram, although some of them are made with not halal ingredients, then those are haram. If you want to use nail polish you can perform ablution first then apply it, but we have seen now how un-practical it will be, I mean, if you lose your ablution for any of the sircunsatance it could be lost, then you will have to take it off and perform ablution again, with 5 prayers every day I really doubt you will keep going with this, and the reward of performing our prayers on time is greatest than colored nails.

We should accept what Allah (swt) order us, because without no doubt he knows what is better for us.

Beauty Tips,

When you look in the mirror, what do you see?

12:15 AM S. H. 0 Comments

The vast majority of women – and quite a few men - don’t see themselves as they really are. They look in the mirror and focus on the areas they don’t like: hips and thighs that are less than perfect; unsightly hair growth; a post-baby paunch; wrinkles that weren’t there yesterday – the list goes on. The problem is that as poor body image develops people stop seeing the good bits and just focus on the areas that they are unhappy about. Self-confidence, self-acceptance and self-love can turn quickly into self-loathing.

So, when you look in the mirror, can you see all of yourself, or do you only see the wobbly bits?

How Poor Body Image Develops
A quick trawl through the psychological research can turn up a myriad of reasons why people develop a poor self-image. Some of the things that are said to contribute to the development of negative body images include:
•The media – pop videos and airbrushed images in magazines that focus on the very thin as icons of beauty
•Barbie – let’s face it, she’s out of proportion, but is she completely to blame?
•Celebrities endorsing new diets – especially when they start to become painfully thin
•The size zero ‘phenomena’ – and can anyone bigger than size zero look ‘good’ in the clothes that they wear?
•Attitudes of friends and family – especially those of anyone inclined to voice criticism based on appearance or weight.
•Trauma – the loss of health and well-being through accidents and/or through long term illnesses like cancer can also contribute to poor body image.
•Abuse –detailed case studies taken of those struggling with eating disorders sometimes reveal a history of abuse that can be responsible for instilling a sense of self-loathing.

Why Massage for Poor Body Image?
Poor body image is just one of an array of symptoms associated with more serious mental health issues. Amongst others, it has been connected to anxiety, depression, anorexia and bulimia. When professionals look to treat mental health issues, one of the first things they focus on is finding a way of helping someone to feel good.

Massage is well known for its ability to make people of all ages feel more relaxed and better about themselves. Hence, researchers started to investigate massage as a way of improving mental health in general and body image in particular. Over the past decade, the research teams world wide have managed to collect some interesting evidence to prove that regular massage can make a significant difference to how you feel about yourself. Here’s a small sample:

•Female university students taking part in a controlled experiment relating to the effects of massage on body image reported feeling better about themselves and their bodies after having massage. The control group (who did not receive massage) showed no change in their attitudes. (Bridgewater State University, USA, 2011).

•Post-menopausal women taking part in an experiment to examine the effects of massage on abdominal fat, waist circumference and body image received a full body massage once a week and massaged their own abdomens twice a day during the six week experiment. Half the group received massages with grapeseed oil. The other half received an aromatherapy massage with a standardized blend of essential oils. Both groups felt better after the treatment, but the group receiving aromatherapy massage showed significant changes across all areas – body image, waist circumference and abdominal fat. (Department of Nursing, Wonkwang Health Science College, Korea) 2007)

•Twice weekly massages were given to women undergoing treatment for anorexia nervosa. As well as reporting lower levels of stress and anxiety, they also commented that they felt less dissatisfied with their bodies during the weeks that they received the massages. Blood tests also revealed lower levels of cortisol (the stress hormone) immediately after massage. (Touch Institute, Miami University, 2001)

The Feel Good Factor
If you want to focus on massage as a means of improving body image, the evidence suggests the following:
•Have regular treatments
•Try self-massage between treatments and focus on those problem bits. Positive attention of this kind will help you to change how you feel about your problem areas.
•In between treatments, find ways of focusing on what makes you feel good –being happy more of the time will help to improve how you feel about yourself and your body.
•Consider increasing your physical exercise – as well as releasing additional endorphins, regular physical exercise can help your body to feel stronger, more powerful and healthy.
•Turn around and nurture others with massage – it’s up to us to ensure that the next generation won’t develop similar hang-ups about their bodies. Regular massage for children helps keep them happy in themselves as well as improving sleep and reducing aggressive tendencies (additional studies carried out at the Touch Institute in Miami).

Egyptian Kahk recipe, to break the diet !!!

12:07 AM S. H. 0 Comments

This is an Egyptian style kahk recipe. Kahk is usually prepared during Eid Al-Fitr, Eid Al-Adha, and Christmas.
I know some people hate dates, but not me, I love them and even more inside any cookie :)

2 cups semolina flour
1 1/2 cups shortening
1 cup boiling water
3/4 cup white sugar
2 cups ground walnuts
1 teaspoon rose water
1/4 cup confectioners' sugar for dusting (optional)

Place the semolina flour into a medium bowl, and cut in shortening using a pastry blender or a fork. Pour in boiling water, and mix to form a solid dough. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface, and knead for a minute or two to be sure the dough is well blended. Cover dough and let stand for at least one hour, or as long as overnight.
In a medium bowl, mix together the sugar, ground nuts, and rose water so that the mixture is uniform. Set aside.

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease cookie sheets, or line with parchment paper. Knead dough again briefly, and form into walnut sized balls. Make a hole in the center using your finger. Fill the hole with the nut mixture, and seal the dough up over it.

Gently form into balls or crescents, or make designs into the dough using a fork. Place cookies at least 1 inch apart onto the prepared cookie sheets.

Bake for 10 to 12 minutes in the preheated oven, or until lightly browned. Dust with confectioners sugar while still warm if desired.

Almonds or unsalted pistachios may be used for filling also. If rose water is not available in your area, you can use 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon for flavoring.

There are many variations for shaping these cookies including rectangles rolled into mini jelly rolls, or shape 3 inch rounds from balls, place filling in the center, and fold the sides over to cover, and seal.
